!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hello stratego-lovers, this is a new release!!!
Stratego now supports COM1, COM2 and COM3. COM4 will follow...
An important change is that you now can choose your own communications-port,
by giving the responding number as parameter.
STRATEGO 2 will let you play STRATEGO on comport 2. (if you choose RS232)
When you don't specify the port to use, STRATEGO will assume COM1.
Please let me know when you have any troubles, I did some changes at the
RS232 part. (another little change is the intro-pic)
For messages see below, have fun !

STRATEGO, release for Novell and RS232.
=======================================
Stratego is a strategic game for the Novell network and for RS232.
Run STRINST.BAT to install Stratego, this program will copy all programs to
the drive and directory you enter, e.g. F:\STRATEGO
You don't have to be in the stratego directory to start the game, but there
must be a PATH to the directory where you install STRATEGO.
Stratego finds the files it needs itselves.
On a network, flag the files as Shareable, Execute only, and Read only.
The disk must contain the following files :
_BOARD HGC : The board-picture for HGC
_BOARD EGA : The board-picture for EGA/VGA
_INTRO HGC : The intro-picture for HGC
_INTRO EGA : The intro-picture for EGA/VGA
LOADER EXE : Loader for pictures
STRATEGO EXE : The executable file to start STRATEGO
STRINST BAT : The Stratego batchfile
STRATEGO DOC : This file
How to play stratego:
=====================
Start STRATEGO(.EXE), it will start with showing the intro-picture.
(you can press a key to move on to the menu, or wait a few seconds)
Parameter : number for communications port ( i.e. 1 for COM1 etc )
Note: Stratego requires Hercules, EGA or VGA graphics to run.
Also, a minimum of 256KB memory is required to run stratego properly.
Insufficient memory could result in a missing intro-picture and more
important: missing the playing board.
The main menu has 3 options:
- Choose opponent
- Play/Setup Game
- Quit
Choose opponent
---------------
This shows the second menu, with 3 options:
- Network connection, to choose this option, you must be logged in to a
Novell network. It will show a list of users connected, of which you can
choose one. That user will get a "STRATEGO REQUEST".
Note: users must have "CASTON" to receive that request.
Now that user must start stratego too and choose network connection.
He must then choose the user in the list from who he got the request.
In case of connection an asterisk will be shown at the right top of the
screen. Now the users can set up a board by returning to the main menu,
and choose the "Play/Setup" option (see below).
- RS232 connection, to choose this option, you must have 2 computers linked
together with a "NULL-MODEM cable".
This cable has the following configuration :

│ 2╞═════╗ ╚══╡2 │
25 pins │ ╞═══╝ ╚═════╡3 │ 25 pins
male │ │ │ │ male

│ 8╞═╣ ╠═╡8 │
│20╞═╝ ╚═╡20│
└──┘ └──┘
and must be connected to both computers on the first serial port.
Once the computers are linked together, you can choose this option.
The computer then will wait until the other computer is also started
with this option. When the connection is made, you must return to the
main menu and choose can choose the "Play/Setup" option (see below).
